On The Menu: Kilikio by Mythos, Depachika Food Hall

Living through a global pandemic has resulted in a change of dining habits for many of us. Evenings spent dining out at restaurants were soon replaced with takeaway dinners in front of the television. Yet, our penchant for quality food and value for money remained a priority.

Battling against the odds, the team behind popular Greek restaurant Mythos in JLT opened a new dining establishment during the pandemic. The casual dining concept specialises in breakfast dishes and casual Greek eats regularly draws in the crowds on Dubai's Palm Jumeirah.

Kilikio by Mythos

Situated in the Nakheel Mall on the trunk of the man-made Palm, Kilikio by Mythos is ideally suited to its location in Depachika Food Hall, a gourmet food paradise named after the dedicated food halls that sit beneath department stores in Japan's capital city, Tokyo. Depachika brings something new to a city that seemingly has everything, and we're immediately reminded of similar concepts in the likes of Harrod's and Selfridges in London.

Speciality coffee roasters, cheese rooms, and shelves laden with Arabic sweets are triumphantly displayed across shiny glass counters and towering tiered displays. Still, there is a significant buzz and a clamour of people surrounding one particular venue on weekends - Kilikio By Mythos.

Much like the flagship JLT restaurant, visitors to Kilikio by Mythos know precisely what to expect. Albeit smaller than its predecessor, Kilikio is no less charming and despite the food hall location, the friendly team make us feel immediately welcome. As we take a seat near the glass deli-style counter displaying an array of appealing baked goods, we're immediately enamoured by the charms of Kilikio and their eager to please staff.

Serving a concise menu of Greek-style coffee, souvlaki bowls, salads and dips, the focus of Kilikio by Mythos is on quality ingredients. We begin with oven-fresh pitta bread dipped in a light and refreshing Tzatziki (AED 20) that is the perfect blend of greek yoghurt, cucumber, garlic, dill and olive oil. There's also Taramosalata, Tyrokafteri and Greek Salad, but we've already got our eyes on the Feta in Filo with Honey (AED 45). The warm and comforting dish bakes feta cheese inside a flaky filo parcel before generously slathering it with pine tree honey and adornment of roasted sesame seeds.

The Souvlaki Wraps are another highlight and we're immediately enamoured by the Mattar Farm Smoked Brisket (AED 65), which is a generous handful stuffed with homemade pickles, tomato, onion, lettuce and a delightful olive oil mayo. The brisket is the star of the show, taking on the char and robust flavours of its cookery technique. It's a delight and a worthy alignment between two well-respected brands - Mythos and the Mattar Farm.

Similarly, the Sea Bass bowl (AED 55) offers another generously sized and reasonably priced dish. The perfect fillet lies effortlessly upon wild greens and roasted cauliflower and is topped with almond flakes for texture and a fragrant lemon-olive oil sauce.

Almost too stuffed for dessert, we're convinced by the Kilikio team to try Kilikio Loukoumas (AED 20), and we're so glad we did! The gigantic sugar-coated Greek doughnut is a visual teat that reveals a light vanilla custard inside the fluffy dough.

Kilikio by Mythos is exceptionally busy, especially on weekend mornings. Yet, from the minute we walked in, right up until the point we left with happy full bellies, the staff were attentive, extremely polite, kept our table clean, and our glasses full. Kilikio by Mythos is one to watch out for if you're in search of a top-notch and reasonably priced meal after a spot of retail therapy or a trip to the newly opened, The View at The Palm.
