The Hoop has been written by Ahmed Musa Albun Himdah.


The Edinburgh Fringe welcomes performers from around the world, and now it is set to welcome the Saudi Theater and Performing Arts Commission. The play, The Hoop, is showing at the Bedlam Theatre until 5 August and showcases the country’s creative talent.

Founded in 1947, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is one of the world’s largest performing arts festivals. Held annually, it attracts thousands of artists and creatives from across the globe—as well as a global audience eager to see actors, comedians, dancers, and more.

The Hoop tells the story of Fawzi, an office worker trapped in a monotonous and joyless job. One day, he snaps and sets out to change his life. The play is directed by Fahad Al-Dosari and stars Ahmed Al-Dhikrallah, Fatima Al-Jishi, Maryam Hussein, Abdulaziz Al-Zayani, Khaled Al-Huwaidi, and Shehab Al-Shehab.

The Hoop

Saudi writer and actor Ahmed Musa Albun Himdah wrote the play, and has also penned both theatrical and cinematic scripts. He previously won first place in the Sharjah Playwriting Competition.

This performance is part of the SITAR programme, launched by the Saudi Theater and Performing Arts Commission. The initiative aims to support the production of Saudi theatrical works. Plus, it aims to encourage local creativity, and enhance the quality of Saudi theatre.

The Hoop won Best Contemporary Performance at the second edition of the Riyadh Theater Festival in 2024. Plus, it was part of the 79th edition of the Avignon Festival in France.
