Terhal follows one man’s journey through the Kingdom.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Culture is set to host the second edition of the immersive theatrical production Terhal. Running from 4 to 25 August, it will take place at Mayadeen, Diriyah, in the heart of Riyadh.
Terhal brings together local talent as well as international performers. In Terhal, visitors can see Saudi Arabia’s traditions come to life through arts, crafts, fashion, food, and music. The show first came to Diriyah in 2023 and gained critical acclaim for its depiction of the country.

In Arabic, the word Terhal means journey, travel, or voyage. It’s a fitting name for the poignant story, which follows a young Saudi Arabian man. While studying in Riyadh, he dreams of shaping the future of his country in the tech era.
Motivated by a deep love for his homeland, he sets out on a transformative journey across the Kingdom to reconnect with the land and its cultural and natural heritage. Upon returning home, he discovers new aspects of his identity and comes back with knowledge, confidence, and a renewed love for his country.
Terhal draws inspiration from Saudi Arabia’s diverse landscapes. The show aims to bring these environments to life through state-of-the-art visual effects and lighting. The story explores themes of tradition, diversity, and identity, and is especially relatable in a country where 70 per cent of the population is under the age of 30.
The show is performed in Diriyah, an area considered the historical birthplace of the Kingdom and the site of the first Saudi state. It is also home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of At-Turaif.
