Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Metro showcases its first ride

Riyadh Expo 2030 judges hopped on board the new transport system.

London has the Tube, New York has the Subway, and Riyadh is getting its very own Metro. Saudi Arabia is filled with marvellous megaprojects, and Riyadh Metro will take us from A to B. The new transport system covers the capital, and recently unveiled the brand-new experience.

Fahd Abdulmohsen Al Rasheed, CEO of the Royal Commission of Riyadh City at the KAFD Metro Station, led a tour of the new transport system. During a proposal for Riyadh Expo 2030, Bureau International des Expositions judges, who select the next Expo location, were granted a first look.

The Riyadh Expo 2030 judges took a ride on Line 4, which will serve the proposed Riyadh Expo 2030 site. So far, we know that Riyadh Metro will have six lines, and that the stations include Qasr Al Hokm, King Abdullah Financial District and Western Station.

Al Rasheed stated: “We are integrating the Metro in the capital’s intracity infrastructure, ensuring its connectivity to the main sites and accommodation hubs within Riyadh, as part of the city’s mobility initiatives within the Riyadh Sustainability Strategy.

“Such investments in the capital’s infrastructure demonstrate the support of our leadership, and of all government institutions, behind the Riyadh Expo 2030 candidacy.”

Plans for Riyadh Metro started in 2014, and will transform the transport system in the city with trains and buses. The project is expected to open to passengers later this year. When completed, this will be the second metro in Saudi Arabia, as the first was Mecca Metro. Plus, most importantly, you won’t have to miss a WhatsApp, as it will have WiFi.

Saudi Arabia put its bid in for Riyadh to host World Expo 2030. If confirmed, it would take place from October 2030 to April 2031, and would fittingly celebrate the culmination of Saudi Vision 2030. The last country to host World Expo was the UAE, and it ran the successful Expo 2020 Dubai.

Riyadh, it’s going to be an exciting ride.
