Darwin Núñez will join the Saudi Arabian team.

Liverpool FC has officially transferred Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez to Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal. The negotiations were well underway, and were finally confirmed.

Negotiations between Liverpool and Al Hilal accelerated in recent weeks. The Premier League club is now allowing Núñez, 26, to finalise his terms and undergo a medical. He is expected to join the Saudi team during their pre-season training camp in Germany, under the guidance of former Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi.

Al Hilal has reached an agreement to sign Núñez for an initial fee of £46.3 million, with add-ons that could increase the total to £56.6 million. He is reportedly set to sign a three-year contract with the Riyadh-based football club. Núñez has scored 40 goals in 143 appearances but only started eight Premier League games during Liverpool’s successful campaign last season.

Liverpool’s decision to approve Núñez’s departure also reflects a broader restructuring under new manager Arne Slot. The club has already signed Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz.

Italian champions Napoli had also shown interest in Núñez this summer. Back in January, he reportedly rejected a £61 million bid from Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr. However, Liverpool are still expected to find an attacking player capable of stepping into the starting line-up. Núñez is now looking forward to a fresh start in the Saudi capital.

The moves are all part of Saudi Arabia’s ambitions to be a sporting destination. The Kingdom is also set to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, and welcome football teams from around the world.
